Abstract :
This paper discusses the modelling capabilities of a proposed biologically motivated neural processor (NP) array. The device will employ a novel, extendible 3-dimensional architecture which provides considerable flexibility in the modelling of a range of biologically realistic neural mechanisms and structures. Using a simplified 2-dimensional NP array model developed using the MATLAB/SIMULINK dynamic systems analysis software, some sample models and simulated behaviour of a single branching neuron, and a small competitive network inspired by the structures of the cortex are presented.
