Abstract
One computer oriented approach to the design of permanent magnets having ellipsoidal form is presented. This method is based on the known analytical solution of the magnetic field distribution inside an ellipsoidal ferromagnetic body in a homogeneous external magnetic field and on one new simple approximation for the experimental results of the demagnetization curve. It provides determination of the magnetic field strength, flux density and magnetization, as well as its orientation compared to the external magnetic field which produces magnetization. Based on the theoretical analysis, a general numerical program (PERMAG) is developed. The procedure has particular interest for application to the rod, strip and disk which represent special cases of the prolate or oblate ellipsoid.
