Abstract
Earlier studies have shown that it is possible to reduce the disturbing effects of space harmonics by making changes to the winding arrangement and stator core design. This paper presents the calculation of these space harmonic effects, including the induced harmonic voltages, currents and conduction losses in the rotor by using a linear equivalent circuit. The calculations were performed for two different motors, one a standard squirrel cage motor and the other a motor with a novel winding arrangement located in newly designed stator core with different slot sizes containing different numbers of conductors. A comparison between the two different types of motor is given in terms of the quantities demonstrating the space harmonic effects.
