  • Abstract
The most studies of load-frequency control in power systems are done using linearized power system models. Those models may have nonlinearities within turbines and their governors, but generator dynamics and nonlinearities in tie-lines are mostly neglected. Generally, those models are only valid in the vicinity of the system´s operating point. In this paper, the behavior of an advanced load-frequency controller is tested on nonlinear power system model. The following procedure is used: firstly, by analyzing structure and response signals of the nonlinear model, parameters of the substitute linear model are obtained. Then, from the substitute linear model, sliding mode based load-frequency controller is synthesized. Finally, the controller´s behavior is validated on the nonlinear model.
