Abstract :
Reliability of any technical system is its most important feature. This paper´s research focuses on the simulation modelling of the reliability of the ship compressor as one of the ship system elements whose performance affects the overall ship´s reliability. The scientific insights obtained by using the methodology of the theory of reliability and the System Dynamics method, which has proven to be a very efficient method for simulating particularly complicated models such as ship compressors, have enabled the authors to define the reliability simulation model of the ship compressor in the PowerSim Studio 2005 software environment. The ship compressor model is a dynamic, non-linear, stochastic, continuous high-level model which is very close to the real-life object. The purpose of this paper is to encourage the application of similar simulation models to real-life situations with the aim of preventing unpleasant and unwanted surprises in functioning of technical systems and in functioning of the ship as a whole.
