Abstract :
Presented paper is focused on description of a system design for monitoring patient head after special ophthalmological operation called Vitrectomy. For optimal recovery a correct position of the head during recovery time is important. The designed system consists of a telemetric monitoring unit and communication unit. The monitoring unit provides periodical tilt sensing using the digital MEMS accelerometer. The tilt angle and corresponding time are stored in built-in memory. The patient is also warned by sound alarm when posture of head is incorrect. The second part of this system is communication unit which provides communication with the monitoring unit via wireless interface. This communication supports single or continual mode, so the measured data can be available immediately or after treatment period. The developed computer software application provides communication and makes it possible to set up the device before treatment and download the data during or after treatment. It is also designed for measured data analyzing. The described system helps the patient to keep a correct head position. Thanks to data logging it is also a powerful diagnostic tool for clinical specialists.
