Abstract :
While service-oriented businesses have been around for a long time, service design as a discipline of design has emerged recently. This paper situates technical and professional communication in the area of service design. A brief history of service design is presented, and a framework for understanding communication as an integral part of service is proposed. The paper suggests that service design provides a new perspective for understanding technical and professional communication.
