Abstract :
Development of Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FM-CW) radars and universal shipborne Automatic Identification System (AIS) creates new questions in practical application of these technologies for purposes of ships traffic monitoring and control. Accuracy of FM-CW radar distance measurement, not achievable for pulse radars, causes questions of correctness of charted data presented by ECDIS and information about ship´s position transmitted by AIS. Paper presents some questions connected with comparison of electronic chart data and FM-CW measurement accuracies and fusion of data received from AIS and radar tracking system. Described researches were conducted in the scope of research work financed by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education as developmental project from the means for science in 2008–2010 years.
