Abstract :
The ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) group at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) has been working on issues in the automated analysis of road signage and delineation since 2002. This research is concerned with the detection and analysis of road signage and raised pavement markers from image data. This involved the design and construction of a prototype portable mobile mapping system that linked GPS to machine vision data. A new mobile mapping system has now been developed that is distinguished from its predecessors by its ability to give survey-grade geo-referenced positions for substandard delineation [7]. The new system also logs and presents in real-time the data supplied by all the different sensor systems together under a common graphical user interface.
