Abstract :
Complex process control systems require advanced techniques in order to maintain safe and secure operation. This is especially the case if the control system is distributed and should be controlled over greater distances. A simulation of the network and the redundant network paths has been used to evaluate the possibilities of the intended approach. Based on the result an enhanced simulation framework has been designed which enables the parallel simulation of the virtual system and the real system. This constellation is used by the diagnosis system to detect differences at the modular system level. In case of a sensor malfunction the system can maintain its fully operating capability by exchanging the sensor information with the simulated one for the control system.
