Experience from the implementation and use of the IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handoff mechanism

This paper reports on the lessons learnt from the design and implementation of the IEEE 802.21 handoff support mechanisms, and from the tests which have been carried out to validate the implementation in a test environment. The implementation process revealed a few ambiguities that exist in the standard and that should be precisely explained in the next versions of the standard. The experiments have proved successful handovers from Ethernet to WLAN link technology and from the WLAN to the Ethernet link technology.
