Abstract :
Personal communication service (PCS) network is the integration of cellular and conventional telephone network, and digital communication network. User movements within the network coverage area are tracked using a database. Hierarchical distributed database architecture localizes database operations caused by user movements and call setup requests, and reduces traffic in the signaling network. Placement of the database in the signaling network affects performance of the network. A new method is presented for the best database placement scheme, which minimizes delays of messages resulting from user movements and call setup requests in the signaling network.
