Abstract :
The studies aiming synchronous interconnected operation of Turkish grid and ENTSO-E CESA (former UCTE) grid are continuing. According to simulation studies, the expected frequency of inter area oscillations after interconnected operation is close to 0.15 Hz, which is in the frequency range of the speed governing structures of turbines. This phenomenon may lead to amplification of the inter area power swings by the speed governing structures, which may end up with disconnection of Turkish grid. Therefore, in order to ensure stable operation after interconnection, the speed governor controller parameters of all considerable size HPPs should be optimized. This study presents the methodology of such an optimization study, through a practice at 2×150 MW Borcka HPP. The optimum controller parameters that determined based on computer simulations are verified by on site tests.
