Abstract :
In order to achieve power electronics converters with reduced weight and size the increase of the switching frequencies becomes mandatory. However, switching losses blocks practical implementation of power electronics converters switching at very high frequencies. Therefore, soft-switching techniques have been attracting great interest in the scientific community and power electronics converters with reduced weight and size can be achieved due to the increase of the switching frequencies without compromising the overall efficiency. In this context, this paper introduces a new Double Forward converter topology which consists of two symmetric Forward converters coupled in a single magnetic core using full hysteresis cycle and zero current turn-on and turn-off (ZCS). The applied soft-commutation celll presents the following advantages: Soft-commutation for a wide load ratio and better current distribution among semiconductors. The operation principle and main properties of the soft-commutation cell applied to the new double forward converter are also included in this paper proposal. Simulation results of 2kW On-Off ZCS Double Forward Converter is presented herein.
