Abstract :
This paper presents an approach to the design of a voltage source inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motor drive, through the modeling and analysis at adjustable levels of complexity. The approach can be generalized to any complex switching power electronics application. The models of the drive elements-average models in rotating (dq0) and stationary three-phase coordinates, as well as switching models-are developed as simulation modules at various levels of complexity. The modules are compatible at terminals and can be mixed in various simulations. The module complexity depends on what analysis is to be performed, how accurate it has to be and what module is emphasized. The models´ independence and compatibility are proven through simulations of several operating scenarios typical for motor drives.
