Abstract
In this paper, opportunistic relay selection technique is applied to cooperative multiple trellis coded modulation (CMTCM). The outage probability of the opportunistic CMTCM system is analytically derived and it is shown that it exactly matches with the computer simulation results. The proposed CMTCM system using opportunistic relay selection decreases the decoding complexity for the same number of relay compared to the equivalent CMTCM systems recently given in the literature, which use all available relays. It is shown through frame error probability simulations that the new systems provide up to 2,5 dB coding gains compared to the CMTCM using one available relay.
