Procedure for non-photorealistic rendering in pointillist style

This paper presents a novel, five layers procedure for non-photorealistic rendering in pointillist style. The first two layers used for production of the final output image constitute background layer which is completed after image segmentation and placement of fixed-size dots. The third layer includes placement of additional dots but this time with variable size and orientation. After enhancement of the edges and introduction of complementary colored dots in layers four and five, output image is produced. Results of the procedure are presented and compared to other approaches.
