Abstract :
This paper investigates distribution and processing of Ultra Wide-Band (UWB) signals for radio over fibre network. An optically connected Impulse Radio UWB (IR-UWB) antenna system is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. To make this system cost effective uncooled, direct modulated VCSEL diodes and multimode optical fibres were applied. The centralization reduces the requirements of the transmitting/receiving antenna node equipment. The results show that excellent quality IR-UWB pulses are obtained after the fibre transmission. The experimental results exhibit a large variance and successful transmission over 1000 m can only be limited by the launched optical power. So, the presented system is remarkably simple and robust, it is very attractive for low-cost applications in short range wireless links with low radiated power.
