Abstract :
An application of lattice quantization for encoding the wavelet coefficients of grey scale images is examined. The wavelet expansion is performed using a wavelet software package. We formally show that lattices give rise to optimal or near optimal quantizers for wavelet coefficients. The theoretical considerations are supported by a number of simulation experiments.
