Abstract :
The problem of construction of a code sequence with good auto- and cross-correlation properties for multiple access communications has received a lot of attention. M-sequences and sequences derived from them solve the problem in the one dimensional space. However, the problem of sequence construction becomes much more complicated when extended to two dimensions as is the case in (1) multiuser radar and sonar systems, and (2) FH-CDMA mobile radio. We introduce new families of FH codes whose construction is not limited to GF(p) but remains valid for GF(p/sup n/). The codes are in fact a cross between the so called Lempel-Golomb (1984) constructions for Costas arrays and various families of n-th order congruence codes. We also describe their 2-D auto- and cross-correlation properties. Our construction produces families of FH codes that falls in what are called extended sonar and Costas sequence.
