  • Abstract
The need for faster and more different ways of communication had led to the great increase in number of mobile terminals. A great number of software applications has been developed and also measurement equipment and testing procedures. Increased need for packet data transfer contributed to GSM system evolution to GPRS, and later to EDGE. In this paper, we will demonstrate procedures and results of testing GPRS and EDGE mobile terminals´ transceivers using test device Rohde&Schwarz - CMU200, which simulates base station of GPRS/EDGE network. From the standpoint of the mobile terminal as a transmitter, it was found procedure for testing transmitted power and modulation parameters (phase and frequency error) of transmitted signal. Quality of mobile terminals´ receivers was tested by measuring receiver linearity, sensitivity and achieved data rate. Comparative analysis of the characteristics of several models of mobile terminals from different manufacturers was carried out for all categories of measurement, and the obtained results were compared to appropriate limit values defined by standards.
