Abstract
This paper describes modern three-dimensional (3D) video formats as well as their structures, and they are compared in terms of various characteristics. It is shown how the choice of video formats depends on the type of selected cameras and, on the other hand, techniques for coding 3D video signals required for transmission and storage. The ways of capturing and coding of 3D scene are included. Also, the video formats from stereoscopic through formats such as "video plus depth" to the modern multiview video format are analyzed. Regarding to this, some criteria for comparison of available video formats for 3D television are proposed.
