Abstract :
The paper presents a concept of a GSM based passive bistatic radar for the monitoring of the velocity of ground vehicles (passenger cars, buses, trucks, etc.). The concept presented is an alternative low-cost solution which can be successfully used in many applications where traditional active radars are nowadays commonly applied (e.g. speed control, traffic monitoring, etc.). The paper presents a detailed algorithm description with a full signal processing scheme dedicated for an experimental GSM based passive bistatic radar. Additionally, real results of ground moving vehicles velocity measurements and tracking obtained for different experimental scenarios have been shown in this paper.
