Abstract
Design considerations for a single-stage, single-switch, input-current-shaper (S/sup 4/ICS) which combines the boost-like front end with a continuous-conduction-mode DC/DC output stage are provided. A complete design-oriented mathematical model is derived for both the discontinuous and continuous conduction modes of operation of the boost inductor. The design procedure is illustrated on the example of a 5 V/20 A, universal line-voltage range S/sup 4/ICS forward converter.
