Abstract :
This paper presents a novel multifocus image fusion method based on the first level of Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD), only. The main advantages of the proposed method are its simplicity, straightforward applicability to color images and absence of artifacts. It was compared with EMD and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) based image fusion methods. Experimental results performed on the in-house multifocus image dataset that is publicly available, show that the proposed method gives better subjective image quality assessment results EMD and DWT based multifocus image fusion methods.
