Abstract
This study presents the experimental findings in SF/sub 6/+Ar binary mixtures under nonuniform electrostatic fields for different contents of SF/sub 6/ in the mixture. The discharge inception and breakdown voltages were monitored at 50 kPa and 100 kPa of total gas pressure. The breakdown strength of SF/sub 6/+Ar has increased dramatically with small percentage of SF/sub 6/. However, for higher SF/sub 6/ contents, the breakdown voltages did increase monotonically but not dramatically, and indicated a more pronounced corona stabilization activity.
