Operations and maintenance solutions for the Spanish digital telecommunication network

An overview of the integrated operations and maintenance (O&M) system developed for the Spanish Public Switched Network (SPSN) is given. This system covers O&M functions for any network element (transmission equipment, cables, supply equipment, analog and digital exchanges, etc.), but emphasis is placed on the description of operation systems, functions, and services related to the O&M of digital exchanges. Attention is given to issues involved in the transition of this O&M system to a TMN (telecommunication management network) architecture in the application of advanced information processing (AIP) techniques.
