Abstract :
We derive a closed form solution to the problem of finding an optimal grid structure for sequential linear interpolation (SLI) of a 3-D function. The criterion of optimality is to minimize the maximum absolute interpolation error. The approach we take is to equate the interpolation error within each interpolated cell. We compare the performance of our method with that of a previously developed iterative method.
