Abstract :
The Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML) has become a recognised standard for network-applied and network-distributed virtual reality. In this paper, we describe and present current ideas in VRML technology that are mostly focused on integrating VRML with other technologies applied in Internet services (e.g. data streaming and push techniques, multicasting and multimedia). Our example is a project of the VRIT (Virtual Reality/Internet Technology) group involving a VRML Webcast of the University Sailing Regatta, the first attempt at a pseudo- or true real-time VR Webcast of such an event.
