Standardization for Electronic Communications and eLearning

Technical standards and specifications of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) promote and provide standardized environment for the deployment of technology, the use of applications and services to support eStrategies. One important area is the eLearning using applications of new multimedia technologies and the Internet in education to improve the quality of life and overall educational level e. g. by facilitating the access to sources of actual and important information. The results of cooperation between industry and the academic departments in Universities are important sources of new information while back affect the development of new technologies standardized by ETSI. This creates favourable conditions for further development of eLearning and better use of eLearning in practice. The contribution provides an overview of the latest ETSI outcomes that significantly move forward the technical possibilities of eLearning. At the same time provides information about new Electronic Communications Standardization Portal for making the latest information on technical standardization and terminology of electronic communications accessible, which was set up by Výskumný ústav spojov, n. o. (VÚS, n. o.).
