Abstract
This article presents an overview of developments performed by IMST in the area of phased array technology. Such technology has become a key area of interest for applications such as mobile satellite communication terminals, pushed by the ever growing multimedia services provided over wireless links and satellites, and radar frontends, motivated by automotive applications and sensory, for example. Various activities in this area have been conducted in the past and are on-going. Phased array frontends are, in general, complex systems because they consist not only of RF-circuitry but also require baseband processing and sensor platforms in order to perform adequate beam steering. At the same time, such systems have to be cost-effective, which always proves to be a very demanding requirement. IMST has developed a specific set of skills through the years to tackle all these challenges.
