Abstract :
In this work, the offshore wind power of the Mediterranean Sea is presented in an annual and seasonal basis along with the corresponding offshore wind speed and wind direction climate. The assessment is based on surface wind fields obtained from the Blended Sea Winds product, provided by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The time period of the satellite data, considered in the analysis, ranges from 1995 to 2011. In addition, the average wind power output for a specific wind turbine is calculated for two sites after the identification of potential hot-spots for offshore wind farm development in the examined basin.
