Abstract :
Baseband Data handling (BDH) system for deep space mission is designed to manage limited downlink bandwidth, reduce power, volume and mass with necessary fault tolerant features. Function of the system is to collect payload data, compress them if necessary, organize them into packets and finally multiplex these packets into transfer frames that can be down linked or stored for further transmission. Along with payload data, complete satellite telemetry plus command history and attitude related information is also collected. The present paper discusses the architecture that is developed to meet immediate and future requirements of baseband data handling system for deep space mission. Further, hardware realization of the architecture in detail for Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) along with performance summary is presented.
