Abstract
This paper investigates the optimization problem for passive suspensions with one damper, one inerter, and three springs, where the ride comfort and tyre grip performance measures are considered based on a quarter-car model. The optimization models are formulated based on a recent result on the realization of any positive-real admittance as a configuration with one damper, one inerter, and three springs. Furthermore, the algorithms to optimize the programs are given. Finally, the simulation results are presented, which show that only slight degradations for the performances are observed when restricting the number of springs to three.
