  • Abstract
Subdivision schemes are commonly used to generate smooth surfaces from sparse discrete points. The final subdivided surface of the most existing subdivision algorithms cannot be adjusted. In this paper, a novel adjustable subdivision method is introduced to solve the problems mentioned above. First, the mapping points are generated by mapping the central point of a triangle to the tangent planes. Then, after moving the mapping points to a certain proportion, the adjustable polygons on the tangent plane are obtained by connecting the moving points anticlockwise. Finally, the adjustable triangles and quadrilaterals are formed to fill the gap between the adjustable polygons. The subdivided surface generated by our method can be flexibly adjusted according to the different moving coefficient. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective and robust to the mesh refinement.
