Abstract
This paper addresses the design of an induction motor for electric vehicle applications. The motor is required to give very high transient torque during accelerations will being efficient under steady state operation. The paper discussed the required torque-speed envelope and develops a design which is suitable. The analysis techniques includes the use of a spreadsheet design package, a finite element analysis package and a thermal analysis package. The results illustrate the use of highly saturated induction motors and high torque-dense design.
