Abstract :
PSS4B stabilizer is a multi-band stabilizer received attention in recent years. The effectiveness of such a stabilizer depends on a number of factors, among them how stabilizer parameters are tuned playing a key role. In this case study, two common parameter tuning methods, the ideal phase curve method and the residue method, are used to determine the parameters of a PSS4B stabilizer and a PSS1A stabilizer. Simulation results of a 162-bus system and a 2383-bus system are reported. It is concluded that PSS4B can provide more flexible phase compensation if properly tuned and at least two lead-lag blocks in each branch of PSS4B are suggested to be used.
