Abstract
Nowadays, VSC-based STATCOM is widely used to compensate reactive power and regulate voltage for AC power systems. In order to achieve attenuation of injected current harmonics, a low pass filter needs to be connected between the converter and power network. The LCL filter, a typical low pass filter, has shown better attenuation ability than a simple L or LC filter but its compensation capability and stability are more sensitive to filter parameters which require more challenging control design. This paper studies and compares the performance of conventional and a proposed direct-current vector control strategies for control of a VSC-STATCOM that is connected to the power grid via a LCL filter. The Matlab SimPowerSystem simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control technology can provide stronger stability for system after a LCL-filter parameters change.
