Abstract
This paper provides recommendations for volt-VAr and voltage ride-through needs from distributed energy resources (DERs) to contain fault induced delayed voltage recoveries (FIDVRs) events and help stabilize the grid. FIDVR events can potentially cause chain reactions and destabilize the grid. Additionally, it will provide typical residential air conditioner (RAC) unit performance during voltage transients. Furthermore, it will provide field FIDVR data captured in distribution circuits to emphasize the need of both voltage ride-through (VRT) and VAr support to contain the spread of these type of events. Finally, it will provide laboratory test results of an smart inverter that have both VAr support and voltage ride-through during a simulated FIDVR events.
