  • Abstract
This paper develops and presents an adaptive market-based load shedding scheme that provides options for adaptive selection of loads in real-time. Therefore an ancillary market-based system where consumers as well as system operator have options to contribute to system security can be evolved. All existing load shedding schemes are based on system operator´s assessment and emphasize system security. The priority of loads to be shed is planned on a feeder basis by the distribution utilities and there is no obligation to pay consumers for their load curtailment since it is for emergency purposes only. The scheme proposed in this paper is structured on an ancillary market-based load shedding approach where the best combinations of load can be selected from feeders through to individual levels to meet the megawatt shedding requirement. The technical validity of the proposed scheme is tested on a modified 15 bus smart grid distribution test feeder in an OPAL RT real-time simulation environment.
