  • Abstract
Novel high frequency converter cum Inverter analyzed mathematically and simulated with less number of controlled switches in the converter stage of a capacitor charging power supply. Series resonant based capacitor charging power supply (CCPS) is more popularly used to charge pulsed power systems. The power supply size, weight and cost increases with increase in charging rate. So, an attempt has been made to optimize the power supply, where it utilized a novel converter cum inverter instead of rectifier and inverter individually. This novel technique implemented with 6 solid state switches. The paper describes the design features and simulation of a series resonant based capacitor charging power supply with a charging rate of 3kJ/s and 20kV. Mathematical analysis carried out to calculate resonant component values and simulation has been done for the above mentioned rated series resonant based capacitor charging source with converter cum inverter. Results are verified with the simulation results of series resonant capacitor charging power supply when rectifier and inverter used separately. The logic used to implement this converter cum inverter makes the converter works as rectifier and inverter.
