Abstract :
The effect of multiplexer and demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) bandwidth on the performance of hybrid optical communication systems is investigated. Numerical simulations are conducted for eight consecutive channels selected on 100 GHz ITU-grid each carrying data rate of 10 Gbps or 40Gbps. MUX/DEMUX bandwidths of 40, 50, 60, and 70 GHz are used in the simulations. It is found that the optimal MUX/DEMUX bandwidth for all investigated hybrid configurations is 60 GHz. The simulations are used to evaluate the hybrid system performance when using RZ and NRZ pulses format and compare that to regular systems.
