Abstract
We consider the problem of designing a topology control algorithm for free-space optical networks. The problem is to create a topology with strong connectivity. A hierarchical topology control approach is present, named VTC. The approach applies three-level management architecture (Manager-Clusterhead-Member) and constructs a backbone network by Voronoi diagram and Delaunay triangulation. VTC autonomously deploys Clusterheads and enables the network to reconfigure itself; hence, the area covered by the network can be enlarged. To avoid a mass of control messages being disseminated periodically, we use a maintenance algorithm based on level. Through an example using this algorithm, we show that the performance of the topology control algorithm we derive works well.
