Abstract :
This Paper proposes efficient channel quality indicator reporting schemes in LTE with reduced signaling overhead. Channel quality indicator values are used by the Scheduler for downlink packet scheduling and quick link adaptation. A brief review of existing channel quality indicator reporting schemes, and the effects of channel quality indicator reporting frequency and resolution on signaling overhead and system overall spectral efficiency is presented. Two of the most popular existing channel quality indicators reporting schemes are modified, and a novel hybrid channel quality indicator reporting scheme is proposed. The comparative performance evaluation of the proposed and existing schemes is presented. Simulation results show the significant reduction of signaling overhead on the eNodeBs without compromising on the spectral efficiency.
