  • Abstract
Industrial process control requires very specific requirements regarding communication protocols, data processing speed and device compatibility. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new smart interfaces between actual standards and the legacy devices. The new trending in industrial process control is to use fieldbus devices and to introduce a fast network communication protocol. This protocol is based on the Ethernet structure, the IEC 61874 and the smart IEEE 1451 devices. The key elements of the new structure which make possible the interfacing of HART devices to a standard Network Capable Application Processors (NCAP) are the UART/HART Modem and the corresponding logic control embedded into an IEEE 1451 Transducer Interface Module. Smart HART Modem offers the possibility to interface legacy HART field devices to actual IEEE 1451 with minimal implementation costs.
