Abstract :
The perspective of the orimulsion using in the energy sector of Lithuania has been assessed. In 2010 when INPP is closed, consumption of energy fuel will increase more than 3 times in contrast with 2002. In order to avoid the dependence on fuel supply (not from one supplier-Russia) one of the possibilities is to import an alternative fuel - Orimulsion - from South America. The consumption of Orimulsion could be increased from 25-50 kt in 1995-2002 to 0,5-2,5 Mt in 2010. The probability of orimulsion spill has been assessed. The conclusion has been made that the probability of such an accident is very low and should not have an impact on the strategic decision on the use of orimulsion in Lithuania.
