Forecasts of the trajectory and fate of spills, using Internet as the calculation platform

Since the late 70ies SMHI has used forecasting systems for oil drift. These have successively been improved according to new technology and new numerical models. In the late 90ies we started to use an Internet platform. This version has been developed at SMHI (The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) in close co-operation with Danish authorities. More and more active users of the system have made it necessary to have an easy installation. Now anybody can use the system without any special arrangements. This is important as this is a tool for emergency situations, when fast and high quality results are necessary.
