Abstract :
We study a rigorous solution to the problem of scattering of E- and H-polarized plane electromagnetic waves by a single myelinated axon in the approximation of uniform distribution of the myelin sheath along the axon. Over the past decade, this problem has received considerable attention, and is of interest for developing contactless methods of excitation of nerve fibers by electromagnetic beams in the optical and infrared ranges. Despite a great deal of works on the subject, a cause for the emission of pulses by a nerve fiber in the field of electromagnetic beams remains unclear until now.
