Abstract :
This paper presents a wearable digital stethoscope with wireless communication capability. The wireless stethoscope can be used for patient monitoring without limiting mobility. Digitized heart sounds were recorded and compared to those recorded by a wired stethoscope. Recordings were compared in the time domain by mean squared errors, in the frequency domain by spectral distribution, and in the time-frequency domain using the short-time Fourier transform (STFT). Digital filtering, re-sampling, amplitude scaling methods and signal energy density analysis were used. The results demonstrate wireless system performance similar to the wired system.
