Abstract :
In this paper, split ring resonator (SRR) loaded metamaterial (MTM) antenna with CPW and microstrip feed have been proposed. Two antenna structures are presented which have an antenna size of 50 mm × 40 mm × 2.56 mm. The proposed structure with CPW feed shows dual-band behavior with an impedance bandwidth of 9.1% (centered at 1.54 GHz) for first band and 9.8% (centered at 2.86 GHz) for second band. The first band is due to zeroth order resonating (n = 0) mode and second band is for first order mode (n = +1). Using CRLH transmission line theory, bandwidth is enhanced by introducing ground plane at the bottom which decreases the shunt capacitance. This microstrip-fed MTM antenna offers an extended impedance bandwidth of 48.8 % (centered at 2.64 GHz). Radiation characteristics are consistent for both antennas throughout the working band. The proposed antennas can be suitably used for PCS, WCDMA, Bluetooth, UMTS, Wi-Fi etc.
